Musician-led Initiative "MUSIC FOR FOOD" Holds Concert to Benefit The Sunday Love Project

Sunday, March 26 at 3 pm

The College of Physicians of Philadelphia

19 South 22nd Street, Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA — As part of its Concerts at the College series, on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 3 pm, The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, will host a roster of distinguished Curtis Institute and Philadelphia Orchestra artists on behalf of the musician-led initiative, Music for Food, in a concert to benefit the life-changing work of The Sunday Love Project, whose founder and executive director, Margaux Murphy, just received the prestigious Philadelphia Award (often referred to as the “Nobel Prize of Philadelphia”), highlighting her passion for helping others and making a lasting, profound impact on the community.

Music for Food is a national, musician-led initiative for local hunger relief. Its concerts raise resources and awareness in the fight against hunger, empowering musicians to use their artistry to further social justice. Music has the power to call forth the best in humanity, inspiring awareness and action when artists and audiences work together (the musicians donate their services and all ticket fees and donations go to The Sunday Love Project) and partner to transform the ineffable into tangible and much-needed, critical food resources.

The mission of The Sunday Love Project is to share food among those experiencing food insecurity in their local community, while simultaneously building community. After seven years of primarily serving those experiencing homelessness (recently it has served 2,000 meals weekly), it has now expanded to open Greater Goods, a grocery store in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood offering free groceries to those who otherwise may go hungry.

The afternoon performance, brings together the finest musicians from The Philadelphia Orchestra and Curtis Insitute of Music and the magic and pure joy generated by the synergy between young and seasoned artists. The program includes Hungarian Zoltán Kodály’s folk-like, gay “Serenade, Op. 12;” the powerful “Divertimento” by contemporary American composer, Gabriella Smith; and Beethoven’s only full-length string quintet (“String Quintet in C major, Op. 29, The Storm”) full of wit, hijinks and exhilaration.

The concert begins at 3 pm. Seating is first- come, first -served. A reception with the musicians follows the concert from Catering By Design.

Tickets (concert and reception) are $30 ($10 student) plus additional optional donations. All proceeds benefit the transformative work of The Sunday Love Project.
